Letter from the Co-Founders and Executive Director

We extend to you the warmest of welcomes as White Bird resumes its live programming after almost a two-year hiatus. The pandemic seriously affected all of us, and since March 2020, we have been working hard to keep White Bird relevant and alive. A huge thanks to all of you who have so generously donated since March 2020!

In transitioning to our live dance performances, we are proud to launch a new festival called WE ARE ONE, which we are offering first to all our subscribers. For our 24th season, taking place in late Winter/Spring of 2022, we will present companies of diverse cultural makeup, led by artists of color, and deepen the connection more than ever with our region’s many unique communities.

We will start with Alonzo King LINES Ballet in late February. Powerfully fluid choreography and gorgeous dancers are the hallmarks of Alonzo’s company, and we cannot think of a more perfect company — one that reveres cultural legacy while embracing change — to relaunch White Bird.

Then, in May, we have two exceptional companies returning as well: Dance Theatre of Harlem, originally scheduled to close our 2019-20 season, and Complexions, a multicultural company, breathtaking for its mix of dance styles and intense athleticism.

Adding to the excitement of our festival is a special treat. We are immensely proud to be among the first companies to launch the new state-of-the-art Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton. We are excited to introduce you to Versa-Style Dance Company, whose dazzling hip-hop dancers have been taking Southern California by storm.

Please be assured that for next year’s 25th anniversary season, we will resume the White Bird Dance Series and Uncaged in Fall 2022. After so many months away, we cannot wait to see you!

Warmest regards,

Walter Jaffe and Paul King, Co-Founder
