2020-21 Season Announcement
Dear White Bird Friend:
Now that we have concluded our fiscal year, White Bird has four major announcements:
1. FUNDRAISING APPEAL
Thank you! We are extremely grateful to all of you who generously donated to White Bird’s
fiscal-end-of- the year appeal. We exceeded our goal of $200,000, which helped make up for
lost revenue from our 2019-20 performances and fundraiser. We also thank all of you who
contributed your tickets back from our cancelled shows.
2. IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT NEXT SEASON
We, with the agreement of the White Bird Board, regret to announce that there will not
be a 2020-21 season of October-May dance performances. This is disappointing, but we
have no other choice for the following reasons:
Due to the Coronavirus, Governor Kate Brown has announced that no large gatherings of 50
or more will be allowed indoors until at least an effective treatment or vaccine is developed.
Also, as a responsible presenter of contemporary dance from around the world, we cannot
ask any dance company to rehearse, prepare for touring, board flights and then perform for
us until there is a treatment or vaccine. The health of our audiences, performers, theater
staff and stage crew is of paramount importance to us.
3. WHITE BIRD DURING 2020-21—ONLINE PRESENCE
During the coming season, be assured that White Bird is not going away but scaling
down our operations and activities. We plan to stay relevant by posting dance videos,
especially by artists of color, and engaging in online conversations about how dance is
addressing today’s most pressing issue of systemic racism. Please visit our website for our
important statement and links to organizations supporting diverse communities. We welcome
your input on how we can best engage with you and our community.
4. WHITE BIRD BOUTIQUE
Our new Boutique will continue online with exciting new items. We are delighted to unveil our
new handmade face coverings in two styles with different bird motifs. Please click HERE to
view and order these unique masks for yourself, family, and friends.
We want you to know how much we cherish your support and dedication to White
Bird. You mean everything to us!
Please enjoy the summer. Stay well and be safe.
