Meet the Co-Founders
Paul King, born in Cleveland, Ohio, is a Cordon-Bleu-trained Chef and serves as President of the White Bird Board. Paul recently completed 9 years on the board of Dance/USA, including a two-year term as Chair of the Board of Dance/USA. He previously served on the boards of California Presenters and the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) and currently serves on the Dean’s Circle of Portland State University’s College of the Arts and liaison between Portland’s arts organizations and the Executive Director Search Committee for Portland’s Regional Arts & Culture Council.
Walter Jaffe (Ph.D., German Literature, Yale, 1979), born in Fall River, Massachusetts, is a former publisher and former board member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company. Walter currently serves on the board of the Portland’5 Centers for the Arts Foundation and the Dean’s Circle of Portland State University’s College of the Arts. He previously served on the boards of Western Arts Alliance and Dance/USA.
Paul King and Walter Jaffe were honored to receive the2012 William Dawson Award for Programmatic Excellence and Sustained Achievement in Programming at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference in New York in January 2012 as well as the Jerry Willis Achievement Award for Artistic Excellence at the Western Arts Alliance Conference in Seattle in August 2011.
The Co-Founders and White Bird were extremely honored to receive a Proclamation from the City of Portland, declaring April 24, 2018 White Bird Day. Great thanks to Mayor Ted Wheeler and Commissioners Chloe Eudaly and Nick Fish.
