STEPHEN PETRONIO COMPANY

THU-SAT | 7:30pm
APRIL 5-7, 2018

“There’s a visceral thrill to the choreography that is unlike anything offered by other contemporary choreographers.” -The New York Times

Stephen Petronio, one of the leading dance-makers of his generation, returns to White Bird for a record 7th time with dance that uniquely merges new music, visual art, and fashion, producing powerfully modern landscapes for the senses. In 2014 Stephen founded Bloodlines, to pay tribute to the masters of American postmodern dance who have strongly influenced him. Featured in White Bird’s program will be new and retrospective work by Petronio as well as a series of chamber works by Yvonne Rainer, Steve Paxton and Anna Halprin.

Please Note: Performance Contains Nudity.

Talking Points:
-2017, the third year of Bloodlines, features choreography from Petronio himself as well as Yvonne Rainer
-Petronio was a part of Trisha Brown Company as her first male dancer
-Stephen Petronio Company has performed in 26 countries throughout the world
-Bloodlines can be considered a commentary on the timelessness of postmodern dance, that the meaning of original works still hold true today
-Petronio, who was a student of the greats during the Judson era, chose “Trio A with Flags” by Yvonne Rainer because of the political statement it makes
