WHITE BIRD COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR (Posted 12/16/2019)

 

White Bird, Portland, Oregon’s premiere nonprofit contemporary dance presenting organization, seeks a full time Communications Director.

 

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and positive leader in communications who enjoys working closely with a small team. They take initiative to seek out new ways of sharing information with diverse populations and are tech-savvy. They are highly organized and deadline-oriented, and work well in a fast-paced environment. They are thinking two steps ahead and do not procrastinate. They have an interest or passion for the arts and are familiar with the world of dance, and eager to learn more. 

 

The Communications Director’s role is to lead the design and implementation of strategic communications and marketing efforts to increase ticket-sales, promote engagement with donors/patrons, and increase awareness of White Bird’s mission. The CD will report directly to the two Co-Founders and will work with the Staff and Board of Directors. The CD is the channel through whom all White Bird news is shared with the public. With this in mind, the CD’s task is to communicate effectively the White Bird brand and mission. 

 

We are looking for someone with demonstrated skills in: 

  • Graphic design--comfortable with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Media/press relations

  • Strong writing skills, attention to details in editing 

  • Social media content creation, aesthetic sensibilities, and campaign implementation

  • Web design and maintenance

  • SEO, Google Analytics

  • Email marketing- campaign design and implementation

  • Budget development and management

 

Video-editing skills and advanced graphic design skills are a plus, but not necessary. 

 

Additional responsibilities: 

NEST Coordinator- NEST is a cornerstone program of White Bird's community engagement. Created 19 years ago, NEST partners with 11 non-profit health and human service organizations in Portland and provides subscriptions to our Dance Series to the clients of our partner organizations in addition to tickets donated by White Bird subscribers and single-ticket buyers. 

The NEST Coordinator works closely with one of the Co-Founders to manage all partnerships and organizes ticket distribution for each NEST organization. NC meets with each organization 2-3X per year to facilitate the best experience for NEST ticket recipients. The NC tracks all NEST recipient attendance and sends reports to each organization.

 

Show-Week Duties-There is an expectation to work at all the performances, as well seeing each of the dance companies. Additional duties include front-of-the house load-in at the theater, setting up the artist catering on show days, and load-out after final performance of each company’s run.

 

Salary ranging from $40,000 and up, commensurate with skills and experience. Includes health insurance, vacation and personal/sick days. WHITE BIRD BOUTIQUE MANAGER (Posted Jan 1, 2020)

 

 

White Bird, Portland, Oregon’s premiere nonprofit contemporary dance presenting organization, seeks a part-time Boutique Manager. 


QUALIFICATIONS include minimum 2 years previous retail experience, with expertise in sales, retail display, daily sales reconciliation, and inventory database management.  Superior customer service and people skills and ability to problem-solve in time-sensitive situations amidst busy environments.  Ability to train and oversee a select group of volunteer salespeople.  Proven results in reaching profit margin goals in a retail setting.  Team player with leadership skills, appreciation for the arts, aesthetic sensibilities, and flexible outlook.

 Job responsibilities include:
--Oversee load-in/load-out of boutique inventory and pop-up structure in three theatre environments over the course of the season that runs from October through May. Also assist in load-in and load-out of theater for each White Bird show.
--Show creativity and resourcefulness in attractively, effectively and securely displaying merchandise in a small, changeable environment.
--Process sales using tablet/credit card swiper technology, and maintain inventory.
--Develop online store with small selection of White Bird boutique products
--Maintain accurate inventory tracking and process reorders when needed.
--When needed, research, suggest, and price out new merchandise items to keep boutique offerings fresh.
--Work closely with Co-Founders and finance staff in setting annual budget and seasonal income revenue goals.
--Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and able to assemble and disassemble prefabricated 9' pop-up structure.


Salary commensurate with skills and experience. Hours adjusted over summer.
