April 15, 2020
Dear White Bird Friends:
We would like to extend our sincere good wishes to all of you during this tremendously difficult time. Although social distancing measures are still firmly in place, we know how important it is to maintain our strong emotional ties to family and friends. We truly hope that you are all staying healthy and safe.
We hope you enjoy our video of behind-the scenes photos of the nine dance companies we brought this season.
Today, Wednesday, April 15, we would have normally seen many of you at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall for White Bird’s presentation of Changmu Dance Company from South Korea. As with Camille A. Brown & Dancers, that has been cancelled. Instead, we are providing you with clip below of the wonderful Changmu Company, which would have made its West Coast debut with White Bird.
Since we began our appeal three weeks ago, we are happy to announce that we are halfway to our fundraising goal of $200,000. We extend huge thanks to you who have donated to our White Bird emergency campaign. We have been incredibly moved by your support and the powerful words of encouragement we have received.
However, we still have another $100,000 to raise by end of April. Our next season and the new brochure remain on hold.
We have no idea when we can resume our normal day-to-day activities. We look forward to the day when we can return to enjoying live performances, eating in Portland’s great restaurants, and simply appreciating the company of one another in shared communal spaces.
We can only imagine how challenging it is for many of you to donate at a time when the Coronavirus is still actively impacting everyone’s health, finances and activities.
Your generous gift will make it possible for us to consider a future White Bird season.
You are White Bird’s lifeline. Your gift by April 30 will help us reach our goal and make a critical difference as to whether White Bird can move forward or not.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your years of love of dance and of White Bird.
With our deepest appreciation,
Walter Jaffe & Paul King
