Kidd Pivot with Electric Company Theatre performs Betroffenheit!
The German word “betroffenheit” can be roughly translated as “consternation”, but to Crystal Pite it translates as “a speechlessness . . . there’s a loss of words…Something about the untranslatable of that word really works with the piece.” (National Post) Found in a book authored by renowned director Anne Bogart, Jonathon Young latched on to the word, saying “I began to notice a quality in the writing I have done recently – its inability to add up, or to connect. . . and I started to think that, as a whole, these fragments were perhaps painting the portrait I was after.” (Stage Door)
Betroffenheit, a new performance co-created by Crystal Pite of Kidd Pivot and Jonathon Young of Electric Company Theater, is an innovative hybrid of theatre and dance. Eerie, distracting, witty, unsettling and beautiful, Betroffenheit is an enigmatic, personal examination of PTSD, tragedy and loss performed through movement, shadow, sound and text.

A White Bird Favorite, Grupo Corpo is back!
The premier contemporary Brazilian dance company is back to Portland with two incredible works, Suíte Branca (2015) and Dança Sinfônica (2015). Continuing beyond forty years of dance, Grupo Corpo’s colorful, athletic and agile performance are a synthesis of modern dance with ballet, samba, capoera, and xaxado dancing. Integral to each creation, each component of production (dance, music, lighting, costume, stage setting) defines the piece and has set the scene for performing arts worldwide. Director/lighting designer Paulo Pederneiras, choreographer Roberto Pederneiras and technical director Pedro Pederneiras are brothers, making Grupo Corpo a family affair.
