Choreographer, director, dancer, painter and designer, Shen Wei received world-wide exposure with his dazzling contribution to the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremonies. Born in Hunan, China and now based in New York City, Shen Wei creates hauntingly beautiful imagery as seen in his Rite of Spring that White Bird presented in 2005. Shen Wei's 13-member company will perform his stunning RE:I, based on Shen Wei's impressions of Tibet during his travels there - as well as his new RE:III, integrating images of the Old Silk Road with the "new" hyper-modern China that Shen Wei observed while there for the Olympics.
Funded in part by the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and additional funding from the Ford Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, adn the Community Connections Fund of the MetLife Foundation.
