Direct from Salvador, Bahia, Dance Brazil is a stunning company of dancers, musicians and capoeristas, who celebrate the pulsating music and dance of Brazil. Vibrant and seductive, Dance Brazil has created an athletic style of movement which melds the energy of traditional capoeira with contemporary twists. Capoeira is the dance-like Afro-Brazilian martial arts form that first emerged among slave communities in Brazil in the 16th and 17th centuries. Artistic Director Jelon Vieira is credited with introducing capoeira to the States in the mid-1970's, and for the past 35 years, he has guided the company through breathtaking performances around the world.
