Founded in 2003, Cedar Lake has already vaulted into the spotlight as one of the finest contemporary mixed repertoire companies, named by Dance Magazine in 2008 as one of the "Top 25 to Watch." The 16-member company has been called "extraordinarily gifted" by The New York Post and is led by Artistic Director Benoit-Swan Pouffer, who spent seven years as a principal member with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Cedar Lake focuses deliberately on the work of innovative and emerging choreographers such as Batsheva's Ohad Naharin, Luca Veggetti, and Crystal Pite (whose company Kidd Pivot inaugurated White Bird Uncaged in November 2008). Cedar Lake will make its Northwest debut with a program scheduled to include a new work Orbo Novo by one of Europe's most in-demand choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
