Tahni Holt is a Portland-based choreographer who has been creating fiercely original dance for the past 18 years. Recipient of White Bird’s 2014 “Barney” Creative Prize*, Tahni has created Sensation/Disorientation, an intimate 60-minute dance performed in the round, for six multigenerational female performers, focused on juxtaposing rigorous physical extremes in the female body against emotional and sensory qualities.

*Made possible by the Dorothy Lemelson Trust and White Bird/MKG Financial Group New Works Fund.

Talking Points:

Based in Portland, Oregon, Tahni Holt is a choreographer, teacher, curator, and organizer, who has been creating original performances for the past 18 years.  Sensation/Disorientation is a newly commissioned piece which features six multigenerational females, focused on juxtaposing rigorous physical extremes in the female body against emotional and sensory qualities.

Based in our very own Portland, Oregon, Tahni Holt has been creating performances for the past 18 years.

Holt, who is a choreographer, teacher, curator, and organizer, is fascinated with the relationship between the audience and performer.

While creating, Holt relies on intuition, improvisation, collaboration with the performers, and her endless curiosities.

Tahni Holt received the Barney Award from White Bird, which commissioned her new piece Sensation/Disorientation!

Sensation/Disorientation features six multigenerational female performers, focused on juxtaposing rigorous physical extremes in the female body against emotional and sensory qualities.

Holt’s choreography has been presented throughout the United States and she has been an artist-in-residence in places all over the world.

Styles of Dance: Contemporary, Modern, Post-Modern

Fun Fact: Apart from Sensation/Disorientation Holt’s most recent work was Duet Love which she received an NDP Touring Award Grant for.  The award is a highly competitive grant that only 10 selected artists from across the United States receive.
