Running time: 70 Minutes
No Intermission-- No Late SeatingFounded by visionary choreographer Phillip Adams in Melbourne, Australia in 1998, BalletLab is one of Australia’s most experimental and provocative contemporary dance companies. Adams lived in New York City for a decade where he danced with groundbreaking dance artists Bebe Miller, Sara Rudner, and Donna Uchizono and launched a choreographic career that evolved into BalletLab. Adams’ company will make its Portland debut with their highly praised new work “Origami,” which fuses together Japanese ancient paper art, industrial modernist architecture and the living body in space. Origami’s strikingly beautiful costumes and complex, folding set, designed by award-winning BURO Architects in Melbourne, enhance this fascinating work inspired by Astro Boy, Mount Fuji and the Japanese art of flower arranging (“ikebana”).
